Numele BREN vine de la BRNO si ENFIELD din Marea Britani.Mitraliera BREN a fost rezultatul cooperarii dintre englezi si cehoslovaci.

Aceasta pusca mitraliera ( =light machine gun ) este identica ca si constructie (difera calibrul) cu pusca mitraliera a armatei britanice,celebra Bren (o pronuntie deformata a orasului Brno),amandoua fabricate de fabrica cehoslovaca ZB.
