5th Cavalry Division (1943-44)
  • 6th Motorized Rosiori Regiment
  • 7th Rosiori Regiment Cuza Voda
  • 8th Rosiori Regiment
  • 11th Rosiori Regiment
  • 2nd Horse Artillery Regiment

In March 1943, after the survivors of the summer campaign in the Caucasus and of the winter campaign in the Kalmuk Steppe had returned home, the division went through a reorganization process and received one of the regiments of the 7th Cavalry Division, which had been disbanded.

Initially, the reorganization plan called for a transformation into an armored cavalry division, but it was modified in 1944 for a motorized cavalry division, due to the lack of a sufficient number of tanks. However, the reequipping process was far from complete in January 1944, when the unit was sent again to the front.

After 23 August 1944, the 5th Cavalry Division retreated in an orderly manner to the Southwestern part of Romania and did not take part in the anti-Axis campaign. It was disbanded in November 1944 after the Soviets imposed an additional protocol to the armistice signed by Romania, through which the Romanian Army had to be reduced to 12 divisions.
