Hi
i just wanted to ask the following questions:

-what colour where the romanian tanks painted for combat- most of the pictures on the website show them in plain grey. was this the standard colour they were painted?

-What was the composition of the Cantemir Mixed Armoured Group and the Popescu Armoured Detachment in terms of numbers and types of tanks?

many thanks
alex

According to the book "Romanian Army's Armoured Troops 1919 - 1947", written by Cornel Scafes; Horia Serbanescu and Ioan Scafes, after 1935, the base colour painted on the armoured matterial used by the romanian army was dark green or olive green.

Cantemir Mixed Tanks Groop was established on February 24th 1944, and used matterial from 1st and 2nd Tank Regiments. According to the same book, it was formed from:

1 x T4 and T3 (romanian indicative for the german Pz IV and III) tank company - 30 x T4 and 2 x T3
1 x Tas (romanian indicative for the german Stug) battery - 10 x Stug
1 x Skoda R2 tank company - 10 x Skoda R2
1 x Renault R35 tank company - 10 x Renault R35
2 x TACAM battery - 14 x TACAM T 60

Majour Victor Popescu Armoured Detachment fought between 24 and 29 August 1944, in Ploiesti city sourrounding area (at Filipestii de Padure, Targsorul Nou, Baicoi and Buda). According to the same book mentioned above it was fomed from men and matterial from 1st Armoured Instruction Division:

1 x Skoda R2 tank company
1 x T 38 tank platoon
1 x Renault R 35 tank platoon
Units from 3rd Moto Rifles Regiment, 1st Armoured Regiment and 22nd Infantery regiment.
On August 27th its effective was supplemented with 2 x Spg batteries (probably TACAM).

See here: http://www.worldwar2.ro/organizare/?article=24 , although it will probably require some upgrading.
