Need help to ID ribbon bars

Hi all,

I would greatly appreciate your help to identify the ribbon bars in the attached JPG.
They belonged to my Romanian grandfather, who fought on the Eastern front during WW2.
I have no actual medals, just a diploma ("brevet") for "Bravery and Loyalty" ("Barbatie si Credinta cu spade clasa III-a").

Based on the photos on this forum (very informative, btw), I'm guessing that
- the 3rd bar on the 1st row is "Crusade against Bolshevism"
- the 2nd bar on the 2nd row is "Bravery and Loyalty"
- the 3rd bar on the 2nd row is "Military Virtue"

Very nice ribbon bar. We have the folowing medals

1. Military Virtue Cross
2. Bravery and Loyalty Medal
3. Loyal Service Cross
4. Crusade against Bolshevism Medal
5. Centenary Medal
6. Carol 1 40 Years jubilee medal.

Great items to have, and its not impossible to find replacement medals

to go along with the ribbons for display.

Are the two rows fixed together or two seperate rows of 3 ribbons?

The reason I ask is you have them in the wrong postion in your linked picture.

I do not see on the bar where is Carol 1 40 Years jubilee medal.

The first bar from first row looks to me more like a German “Ostmedaille”.

We really need a far better picture / close-up of the front and back to be sure,

but was not the standard German medal ribbon of the Nazi period smaller in

width than standard Romanian medal ribbon?

"Ostmedaille" (East Medal) or "Russian Front Medal" was introduced on the 26th of May 1942 to recognize those who participated in the first winter of Operation Barbarossa. German soldiers were awarded with this award from July 1942 up to October 1944. Allies begin to receive it starting with June 20, 1943. In Romania this medal was prohibited after August 23, 1944.

Speaking about bar model: Here we need to take into account that over 3 million of the Ostmedaille were manufactured in more than 26 places. Plus it was awarded to all German Allies. I would expect that Ostmedaille ribbon bars were also special designed for Romanian soldiers. Moreover, as far as I know, for a Romanian soldier it was necessary to obtain a special permit to wear this German medal. Nevertheless, you are right about Nazi type of ribbons, they were different from Romanian.
