The French Forreign Legion is part of a legend, and part of a true fact, There were many Romanians who served in this elite corp. I have a distant relative who served 5 years in Foreign Legion, took part in some turbulences in Cote d'Ivoire, and now he's married with a French woman, has a french citizenship, and live somewere in southern France.
There are many Romanians who were in this corps. Please, if you know some cases, put them on the line. It is important, they are Romanians who lived and fought as mercenaries, and we must know about them.

They may not like that wink.gif
Many people who join the Legion try to "forget the past" and "get a new start".
The majority sign under a pseudonym. The majority also like to preserve their anonimity after service.

That's is really interesting, C-2. Has he some memories, something like that? Were he served, in Northern Africa, Marrocco, against tribes led by Abd-el-Krim?

Got no ideea.
He died in 1992.
He has sort of a memories written.
But they are written by a 80something years old man ,and Imposib. for me to read them.
I don't know even the period he was there.
His daughter is born in 1927 or 28 and she knows nothing.
Just a lot of photos and awards.

Were they in some hotspots?

Another Romanian who served in Foreign Legion was Ilie-Vlad Sturdza, who was prefect of Jassy in 1940-41, under the legionar regime, and later escaped abroad when Soviets entered in Romania.
After that, from 1946 to 1951 he served in French Foreign Legion in Africa and Asia.
He dies in 2009 and he wrote his memories:
Ilie-Vlad Sturdza, Pribeag printr-un secol nebun.

I've read some years ago, in one Romanian paper, about some romanian veterans from Foreign Legion, who took part as mercenaries in a coup in Comore Islands, I think. The coup failed, and a few romanians were KIA. It was at the begining of century, during 200-2004, I think. In that paper were some names, and related biography of one of them.

I know someone that is in the Legion for many years. It started with normal 5 years, them another contract, then some school there and now he is working in Marseille headquarters office. He was active in paratroopers regiment, served in many places...if i remember correctly was something about Ciad and near Egipt.
