See the bottom entry under HAT (the manufacturer) on:

http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/FutureReleases.html#HAT

and No.8118 on

http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Hat.html

They are reportedly due in October and examples will be displayed on the "Plastic Soldier Review" site. For examples of other sets produced by HAT work through the site. This will give you a good idea of the probable quality of the Romanian set.

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi Guys,

For photographs of the Hat 1/72nd Scale 1941 Infantry see:

http://www.hat.com/Prev/Bx81xxRo.html

http://www.hat.com/Curr2/Bx8118RO.html

http://www.hat.com/Curr2/Bx8118ROTest.html

http://www.hat.com/Othr6/Gorman02.html

I would strongly advise one of you to get the import rights to Hat plastic soldiers. 1/72nd Scale plastic soldiers are the standard across the world and Hat has the biggest range!

Cheers,

Sid.

Thanks for letting us know, Sid! I'll definitely get a few sets.

What brand do you recommend for die cast WWII armored vehicles?
So far I've looked at Dragon, Forces of Valor, and King & Country.

Hi mabadesc and johnny_bi,

I am afraid I have no expertise in these area. I keep an eye on modern 1/72 Scale plastic toy soldiers out of sentimental memories of my own 1/72 Scale plastic Airfix toys soldiers in the 1960s and 1970s.

Cheers,

Sid.

Modeling was the dream of my childhood... So, I decided not to give it away, inspite my wife's protests. smile.gif

Hi Guys,

These 1/72nd Scale Romanian model soldiers are now for sale in France and presumably elsewhere soon.

Cheers,

Sid.

Today I went down to the local toy soldier shop and saw one box of these ww2 romanian soldiers for sale so I bought them and a kit of russian farm house made by Pegasus.
I paid $15.00 u.s. for the romanian soldier which may be the going price here in the u.s. for the kit,I can not be sure as this is the first time I have seen this kit for sale.
This should be the start of a nice project!

Unfortunately, the romanian soldier kit apears to be pretty badly sculped, and, although most of the uniforms and weaponry are well researched (except for the guy with the flamethrower, that has a gasmask resembling more the Russian 65 model rather than the Romanian 35) that makes for pretty lousy figurines.

I have had a moment too sit down and take a good look at these figures and I hav
e too agree that they are not as good as they could be.
They could have used a hard plastic to help hold the paint on these figures!
These figures would have came in handy 30 years ago when my brother and I had our war games in 1/72 scale.
I was the Germans and he was the russians,we used the old airfix figures.

Apparently, soft plastic is the norm for 1/72 figures, and although the paint doesn't adhere to them as well as someone would wish, they can still be painted.
As far as the detail is concerned, the best figures I've sen sofar are those from Revell. I have several sets from them, and the quality of the sculpting is superb, with plenty of poses to chose from, and lots of details. But alas, they don't have any romanians... (For WW1 you can always use French soldiers, since the uniform was quite simmilar)

What I would like too do is use a number of the 1/72 romanian soldiers and those russian farm houses and make a diorama of them clearing out the farm house of russian soldiers.
My next question if about the russian farm houses, made by Pegasus Hobbies.
How close are they to the real houses found in russia?
One house look more like a log cabin and the larger of the two look a little better but I was wondering what the little part of the end of the house is?
It has a door and a roof, maybe a tool shed?
Are the chimneys surpose to be in the center of the house or more to the side?

I don't know much about the Pegasus miniatures, since their site is very poorly organised, but here are a couple of pictures of traditional russian "izba"

Thr first phototgraph comes from here, and on this other site you can find better versions of the second and third pictures.
The fourth photograph comes from another good site, that even has plans of such houses. Unfortunately, it is in russian...

Hi Guys,

I think it is rather a good set of 1/72md scale plastic soldiers.

The best feature is that it includes a complete set of infantry weapons - 60mm mortar, flamethrower, heavy machine gun, light machine gun, submachine gun, anti-tank grenades, sniper's rifle, rifles..... I know of no other set of 1/72nd scale soldiers with such a complete range except possibly the same company's Polish infantry.

There are some improvements that could be made. For example, a Beretta SMG is used instead of the Orita. The 60mm mortar is rather heavy-barreled and its crew poses a bit stiff. Also 1941-pattern trousers are used, not the puttees that most Romanian infantry wore for most of the war. However, this does mean they can be used as mountain troops for any year of WWII.

The plastic is quite rigid compared to that used for figures by many model companies and so paint should adhere quite well.

On the whole this is a very good set of 1/72nd scale plastic soldiers and Romania has done well from it.

Cheers,

Sid.
