QUOTE
This medal was created on 27 October 1943 for award to all military personnel who had remained loyal to Romania in June 1940 when both these provinces had become occupied by the Soviet Union. It is a \"tombak\" (zinc and copper alloy) medal depicting on its obverse the female figure of Romania and two soldiers with bayonets. The reverse shows two women, representing the two provinces, with a map of the area and the year \"1940\" above. The ribbon is blue with a red centre stripe edged yellow.

Has anyone saw a medal like this? Looks like a medal from the same type as the "Crusade against communism medal"...

Sorry that is all I could find. I will go in a couple to the Military Museum to take pictures of medals. Maybe I will find it there.

Yes, indeed... And a very interesting medal. Never saw it for sale anywhere. The number of recipients must have been low, and with the Soviet occupation, having such a medal would have been gulag for sure.

The medal was awarded from October 1943 to the Bessarabian or Bukovinan volunteers who fought in 1941 for the liberation of their homes. So I guess there were not that many medals awarded, especially since 10 months later it would have been impossible to give them.

Was this medal officially cancelled in the autumn of 1944? If yes, by which decree did it happen? Was it the same decree that cancelled the Crusade against Bolshevism Medal?
