I thought that if some members wish to give more details about them (like Gunter did), they should have a proper place to do it. So here it is, at your disposal.

Note: Only posts containing your presentation are allowed. No chit-chat.

Short and stout
Here is my handle
Here is my spout

Hear me shout

I'm 26 years old and I'm living in Bucharest.

I've finished the Carl Davilla Medical Colledge last year and now I'm an intern at the Sf. Pantelimon Emergency Clinical Hospital, cardiology department. Fot the future I plan to specialise in medical imaging (a branch of radiology).

I was baptised as a christian, but I'm not a religious man. I belive in God, but not in religious rithuals.

I have no political simpathys and I avoid political disputes.

I'm single for now, but I'm staying with my girlfriend and we'll probably get married next year if we'll get to the conclusion that we both want that and that we can build a true family.

I'm here because of my passion for history of warfare in general and for WW2 in particular.
Of course the pleasant conversation on this forum is another good reason as well.

I'm 41 years old and, naturally, I'm currently living in... Europe. I have a wife but er , I'm not married. I've got a child , it's not truly mine but who cares ? We are a good trio laugh.gif
Have a degree in biochemistry. Sometimes I show the dusty diploma to friends who wonder why I never used it. I'm currently in finance & accounting as data analyst. It's not too boring, there are worst jobs around.

I'm a political beast, not because I love politics but because politics is the way to change your world. I love history and Consim gaming. The two most wonderfull creatures on earth are women and cats, in no particular order, ha ha.

On the dark side of my moon you will find nationalism and neo liberalism (you know, the brainwashing sect whose God is the infallible "Market").

Miscalleanous:

Prefered digit : 14

Most admired army in the world : the IDF (I'm sincere, it's not just to make some readers jump to the ceiling)

I'm peacefull, pacifist but don't step on my shoes too heavily or you get one across the jaw
Just kidding, I would warn before :keep:

I have a dental prothesist formation, and i worked as receptionist/accounts in a hotel.

EDIT: since 24 sept 04 i'm a student again. After one year of "spiritual research", 2 years of philosophy, i'm in the first year of theology at the seminary of the archdiocess of Paris (still 3 years to go...).

Since I was young i loved history, espeacilly ww2 history. I start with the books of Sven Hassel (In Romania i have two "ciobanesti germani" (berger-allemand) dogs, one of them is called Sven) in 94 i started to build my first plastic kit (1/72) a Spitfire. Since then i build 150 kits almost all from the WW2 era at the 1/72 scale (unfortunatlly the collection is in Romania) and I have about 60+ non assembled. In France i built only some kits 1/48 scale.

My name is Nathan and I'm from the state of Texas in the USA. I'm 19 and currently a student going for a history BA. I'm very politically and socially minded; I like to find out how and why things happen and the consequences of them in this very confusing world of ours.

There's really two sides of me: the quiet student who loves to read and learn military history, and then there's the wild sex, drugs, & rock n' roll attitude of me as well. One hell of a combination really, my friends have a hard time figuring me out. :loool: But I have a band and we just found a new singer...I'll post some mp3s one day when our demo is finished.

So I guess you could say music and history drive me!

Also, I love this forum. There's just something about escaping from this country of mine and being able to speak with brothers all over the world. It's interesting to see how life is outside of mine, and I enjoy coming to this forum to see you all here, Romanians are unique people!

Hello all,

My name is Mihai and I am 31 years old. I lived in Bucuresti, Romania, until the age of 14, and since then, I've been living in Chicago, Illinois.
I graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor's degrees in Chemistry and French studies.
Afterwards, I attended graduate school at Princeton University, in their Ph.D. program in French Literature and Language (the department of Romance Languages and Literatures) focusing on Renaissance history and literature. During this time, I was also appointed as instructor of french and taught various french/literature classes to Princeton undergraduate students.
After a couple of years, I decided to postpone writing my Ph.D. dissertation, and left with a Master's degree.
I used my chemistry license to transition into the IT field, and has since worked as a IT/Management Consultant and Project Manager for various large corporations, such as Ernst & Young (now Cap Gemini), Hewitt Associates, as well as some independent projects.
As you may infer, I am very interested in history, particularly european late medieval/Renaissance and World War II.
My interest in WWII partly stems from the fact that it directly affected my family to a large extent. Without going into all the grim details, I'll just say that, for example, my mom was held as a hostage/prisoner for a few months by the NKVD in Slovakia in 1945. She was 6 years old at the time...

I like weapons, especially WW2 german ones and I'd like to have a small collection of German WW2 weapons. I also like tanks, German WW2 of course, but those don't grow on trees and very expensive to colect, not to mention the "high" number in the whole world.

I'm Leo Niehorster, and am 57 years old. No longer married. No children. I am part Dutch (father) and American (mother).

I have always been interested in history, and now have a PhD in Military History. As well as a BA and MA in Business Administration. I also have a piece of paper naming me a Systems and Telecommunications Developer and another as an Apple Service Technician. I have worked in many jobs, all over the world and now live in Hannover, Germany.

I am fascinated by WWII, and have written several books about the Axis armies, with more to come. Besides 18 meters of bookshelf, I have a large collection of 1:200 WWII vehicles, as well as Russo-Japanese War 1:1250 waterline ships. I must not forget to mention my organisations website. http://www.niehorster.orbat.com/index.htm

Since I wrote the book about the Hungarian Army, I find that Rumanians are reluctant to correspond with me. I hope my presence here on this forum will change that. There is a lot of information still missing about the Rumanians in WWII.

Cheers

Hello all,

I'm Robert Geurden. I was born in Wuppertal (West) Germany in 1961. My father was born in Belgium and lived there through World War II. His family was part of the Belgian resistance, involved in forwarding downed Allied pilots to France, then Spain and back to England. My father's cousin married a German woman who's brother (I think) served in U-boats in the German Navy during WW.II.

My mother was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mother of Irish and German extraction and father was of French extraction. As far as I can tell, one of her father's ancestors belonged to Napoleon III's body-guard and fled France after September, 1870 (it seemed like a good idea at the time! biggrin.gif )

As a child, I subsequently lived in Paris, France, West Lafayette Indiana (U.S.A.), and Waterloo, Belgium. I attended university, law school and a graduate tax program in the Boston, Massachusetts area and still live there.

I currently have my own law practice concentrating in tax and business planning, and represent small businesses and their owners, and families.

In addition to history and wargaming, my hobbies include hiking, bird-watching and beer-brewing. (No pushing please, there's enough for everyone wink.gif )

I can't in all honesty say that I'm a pacifist, but, having studied history for some 25 years, I can't think of too many wars that were worth the costs involved. I can, though, respect those who had to fight in those wars, and who had to make decisions which I have been fortunate enough to have avoided.

Favorite recent books: Fischer's "Paul Revere's Ride" and "Albion's Seed"; Israel's "Rise and Fall of the Dutch Republic."

Hello all!
My name's J.M. Johansen and I'm a 30 year (sigh, can't really come to terms with the fact that I'm thirty... arghh... sad.gif ) old danish male.

I have a great interest in history, politics, economics, science and a multitude of other equally obscure subjects (which btw includes both beer and peanuts smile.gif)!

When I'm not sitting with my nose in book, I either write, lift weights, get beaten up in a boxing ring or simply walk around in a daze (must be either all those blows to the head ot all the beers consumed over time tongue.gif)!

Strangely enough (I really have no idea why) I'm very interested in Italy and Rumania, especially in the 20th century. Ironically it's more or less the only countries in Europe I haven't been to.

And that's about it, I think?! Hope to learn a lot on this rather neat site.

Best regards!

- Mr.Bluenote.

Wow, no new info in here for a while! So in that case...

I'm Charles Roman, 25, living in Upstate New York (Syracuse area, right on the shore of Lake Ontario). Ex-Army (M1 Tank Crewman), currently 2 years into my new career in Law Enforcement. Unmarried, no children, avid interest in history in aviation, and obsessive interest in WWII aviation. Long time flyer of flight sims and often one of the only ones with any ARR interest. I'm currently trying to get Grupul 7 Vanatoare started in Aces High. Used to have it in WarBirds until I left.

Been interested in Romania all my life (think it started when I was 8 and read Dracula- don't judge me!) and as soon as I found out that they not only fought heavily, but flew the 109 (my favorite fighter)... it was all down hill from there. smile.gif Some day when I have the time and the money to spare I will go to Romania for a month or two, but until then I am having a devil of a time learning the language...

Not pacifist, but not a war-monger either. Active outdoorsman, internet addict, computer "artist", target shooter and waster of other peoples time. cool.gif

Hello to you all!!!

I'm Andrew, 22 years old, student at International Relations Faculty (Spiru Haret University). Since I was 3-4 years old I have this passion for techicall stuff. First where construction equipment (had a big construction site nera my house). Growing up a little, I've discovered aircraft and tank kits and this was the moment when I started to like the WW2 warfare. My luck was that I live in Bucharest near the Romanian Millitary Museum (which is like my second home).

Other big interest domains are railway history and all kind of stuff from cars to spaceships.

I have no built kits but I'll son start to do this also because I'm running out of space in the room where I hold all the unbuilt kits. There is full of boxes bought during last years that wait to be completed.

Hallo Gentlemen of the Forum, biggrin.gif

My name is Kevin Arthur Ryan.

Born in Nottingham England in August 1958 of an English Mother and Irish Father.

In 1968 at the age of 10 my father decided to bring my mother and their 4 sons to live in the West of Ireland. in the following years 3 more sons were born.

In 1976 I joined the Irish Defense Forces, and served over 21 years and 147 days before retireing on military pension in November 1997, my service also includes service with the United Nations in Lebanon with the UN mission UNIFIL.

I lived 5 years in Bavaria Germany, in September 2000 I came on a holiday with a Romanian friend to Transylvania, in Deva & Brad, I enjoyed the hospitality I came back for Christmas, the following Easter in 2001 I came on holiday and met my future wife, we got married in August 2003, I live full time in Deva.

My main intrests are Military History, European Military Medal collecting, at the moment I am busy writing a book with regards the British Army in the West of Ireland circa 1750 - 1922, this work sometimes keeps me away from the forum.
I also give displays of my medal collection to local schools and other groups who are interested.

Another project I am undertaking this summer is to photograph and document all the crosses in the Heros Military Cemetery in Deva, a lot of the crosses have been damaged by the weather and time.

I attend the collectors shows in Brasov, Timisoara, Arad, Tagu Mures and occasionaly I get to Bucharest, I am always looking to add new medals to my collection, please excuse any spelling mistakes I make with regard to the names of places in Romania.

Kevin A. Ryan.

Hello everybody!

Since I was about 10 years old (and that was almost 35 years ago) I enjoyed reading military history books, and listening to war stories. not to mention the cool war movies. Interestingly, I hate violence, but am fascinated by war. Later in my high-school years, I was thinking of studying history. At this point, my mother convinced me that it would be better to become a doctor, and have enough money to afford to study all the history I want, in the spare time. The alternative, she said, was to become a history teacher in God-forgotten village.

Well, I must say that I regret to some point giving in to my mothers logic.

So I am a physician (actually a good one), working for the last 4 years in Toronto, Canada. I do not have the time I wish I had, to read all the history books I gathered over the years, or build my 1/35 & 1/72 armies I have in kit format now. But I plan to retire soon from the medical profession, and go full time with my hobbies.

I like the site very much, and recommended it to others. Although I read the forum for some time now, I only registered today.

Keep up the good work,

radu

Howdy! I'm Robert. I live in southern California, USA. I am 45, a former US Marine (I have never been to Romania, but I would love to visit), I am married (it will be 12 years this July '07) with two children.
I am a Christian. I used to be a youth pastor.
I am a former school teacher. I now have my own business on the Internet.
I want to learn about the Romanian army of 1940-1945. It appears to me that many Romanian Infantry formations in WWII fought as good or better than everyone else that they fought.
I look forward to meeting you all, even if only through e-mail!
All the best,
Robert

Hello! I think in my first message I should present myself. I am Andrei-Daniel Ionescu, 24 years old, student at the “Politehnica” University of Bucharest, Aeronautical Engineering Faculty. Also I am an employ of Ubisoft on a quality assurance position (game tester tongue.gif )! My interest are various, ranging from plastic models (mainly modern subjects), coins and stamps collecting, millitaria (old and new) to weapons (also new and old). At this moment I am practicing airsoft.
I would like to know more about militaria collectibles and I would like also to obtain an collector permit in order to start a weapon collection.
I hope that I would find many answer to my questions on this forum.

My real name is the same as my user name. Am 54 (soon to be 55), live in the rural area of Central Virginia between Charlottesville and Richmond. I'm a veteran of the US Navy (8 years) and my politics have been decidedly red since '72 (I do not make an issue of these politics in collectors' forums, but it will give some insight as to my thinking regarding the ODM's I collect). I have traveled extensively before returning to the area in which I live (27 countries). I play music (professionally when younger; nowadays to relax)- guitar and cittern.

My areas of collecting are: Soviet (all periods), Mongolian (Socialist), East German (DDR), Bulgarian (Socialist) and Romanian (Socialist). I am also a member of the Soviet Awards Forum, the Wehrmacht Awards Forum and the DDR Collectors' Forum.

My name's Mihai Modrea-Marin (hence the 3 M's) - another Mihai on this forum!
I'm 31 going on 32 (in the summer). I wish I discovered earlier this forum, but...
I loved military history from early childhood; afterwards, only ww2; I also went through Sven Hassel phase, then college (History-English Language, Iaşi, Univ. "Al. I. Cuza"), graduated in 2000 with a thesis about the German offensive in Ardennes in december 1944. After that, a "simple" teacher of English, until 2005, when I got back on the saddle with master studies (2005/07), then PHD (2007-hopefully 2010), all with military history! BTW, I never was in the Army, never touched a firearm and I'M PROUD OF IT!!!!! Some on this forum may think I'm aggressive enough without firearms, as well smile.gif
I like computers, I like Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden rules!) and I used to be a nationalist, until I got a little wiser wink.gif
PS: I still am a teacher of English - WW2 History is just for myself!

Hi,

My name is Mary and I am from Romania.

I am interested in post war conflicts and of course WWII, and more specific the implication of 23th of August, 1944, in the WWII. When I was a litlle girl I completed a full questionnaire about this event. I studied this event in order to be able to respond to all questions and the event marked me.

Later, after 1989, I discovered that in fact there was an unique person that stood alone in front of this event. What a shame for the politicians, that were at that moment on power, for let alone a young person to take this difficult decision.

In fact I do not like war and I WISH to be NO MORE WARS all over the world rolleyes.gif . I belive that studing the history, the wars and conflicts, we may learn to avoid them.

At the end of my presentation I would like to congratulate the person that presented the memorial for the victims of the communism.

I really consider that the main problem that affect the world is lack of democracy, and sometimes communism lead to this, and this conducts, more or less, to wars, to unfair atitudines and abuses.

Hello everyone!

My name is Dmitry, I'm from Moscow, Russia.

This forum is very interesting one - actually my primary interest are officer dress-daggers of the world, and I found this website through search-engine, when I was gathering information on Romanian daggers.

I'm also interesting in Imperial Russia and White forces (anti-communist) of Russia 1917-1922 and partially in anti-soviet Russian forces of WWII. I've read some topics of this forum, and it's a pity for me that some users think the Russians and soviets are the same meanings - it's far not like this. Really hope to change this point of view.
So I'm looking for friendly and successful communication on this forum. Best regards, Dmitry

Hello to all!
I am a Romanian from Bucharest, my main interest is the history of Romanians, especially from the birth of the Romanian State until today. My approach to history is "sine ira et studio", and in spite of having strong opinions on various issues, I don' get emotionally involved. My favourite phrase is "amicus Plato sed magis amica veritas".

Hello everyone, my name is Scott Gerych and I am 45 years old. I am married with 2 boys and a girl and currently live in Grass Lake Michigan. I was drawn to Romanian involvement in WWII through my masters program in military history and because Archbishop Valerian Trifa used to live right down the street from my house in Grass Lake. (we have the Romanian Heritage Center and diocese of the Eastern Orthodox Church here).
I collect mainly Iraqi items but I also have a large WWII collection and I really enjoy the Romanian items I am seeing here. I spent 23 years in the U.S.Army and served in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Now I enjoy military history and spending time with my family. Glad to meet you all on this interesting forum and I hope to visit Romania someday.

Scott.

Hi Together,
i'm a swiss citizen, but live since a view years in the nice town of Sibiu in Romania.
The things i like the most in Romania is the optimism of the people and also the extraordinary hospitality of them. Well, and the landscape here in Sibiu county is close to the swiss landscape in some parts.
I'm happily married to a Romanian and father of a sweet 4 1/2 year old daughter.
So sayd, yes i speek and understand the romanian language.

Since childhood i was interested in any kind of uniforms. Later on this interest turned mostly to WWII german uniforms. Simply because some of them really look stricking.
Did a lot of 1/35 scale figures and tanks.

When finished with military i began to collect different kind of visor caps from different armies.
Had from Germans, Americans, Italians, Hungarians and Russians.
Nowadays only the following remained:
- SS black
- US Marine Corps Officers white
- US Army Officers
- US Navy Officers
- DDR Officers
- USSR Artilery Officers
- Romanian Navy Captains white
- and a view hungarians

But at any time i was the most fascinated in the stricking german uniforms, mainly Waffen-SS.
But to be clear, by no means i'm racist or do support any kind of crime which was done during WWII. I do accept any ethnic groups and any Religion.
I just simply like the uniforms.

Have quite a few books about german uniformology, with reprints of prewar booklets. But also later publications which describe all the uniforms in detail and how they got worn.

Wanted a long time a Uniform for Reenactment, but never wanted to spend the money for a original one.
Over the last few days did a extensiv research on the web to find Repros of uniforms which are quite accurate to originals.
Finally i found what i was looking for:
- M34 Officers Tunic in Gabardine, from a supplier in Singapure
- Officer Breeches in Gabardine, Singapure supplier
- Crusher Visor cap with Gabardine top, Singapure supplier
- Collar Tabs, Italian supplier
- Shoulder Boards, Italian Supplier
- Cap Cord and Buttons for, Italian Supplier
- Officers Buckle and Belt, Italian supplier
- Shoulder Board rank pips, Norwegian supplier
- Sleeve Eagle, Norwegian supplier
- Cap insigna skull and eagle, Norwegian supplier
- Divers awards, Norwegian supplier
- Ribbon bar, Chinese supplier
The whole Uniform excluding the boots will cost me finally approximatly 560 dollars.

Unfortunatelly i realised that Reenactment is not a big point of interest here in Romania, specially i guess WWII german.
Anyway, even this is a Romanian board with main interest in Romanian Military history i hope to find others which have also interest in probably forming a Reenactment group for german military history.

Please don't hesitate to contact me personally if interested.

Edit 08.01.2013:
The items i ordered lately and which should arrive the next 2-3 weeks.
The tunic is with buttons for left and right shoulderboards and also the officers pipping around the collar.
The Ribbon Bar is not ordered as shown, but want to put this assembly together from different Ribbon Bars.
Just missing is the Cufftitle for 8th SS Cavalry Division "Florian Geyer" (haven't found a nice one yet),
Brachcolor is pink while for SS-Panzerjäger Battalion 8.
Have chosen this division because a lot of members of this division came from Siebenbürgen (Transylvania) while origin germans.

Welcome to our forum Robi,

Regarding WW2 german there were some reenactment groups in romania
in 2011 at "Zilele Muzeului Militar" Bucuresti.

http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=6128

But as you said is expensive to get an complete uniform ( around 500 euro) and for the romanian uniform is even hard to find items.
I m interesting for german motorcycle reenactment group. I have some ww2 german motorcycles to restore in working condition. Victoria KR 35 WH, NSU 251OSL, Puch etc. I will buy this year a complete Luftwaffe unteroffizier uniform. I have another friend from Ploiesti with a restored NSU 350. Possible that mix the group with romanian ( as was in the war) motorcycle group.

Regards
Dan.

For romanian uniform is not so hard to find the necesary items if they are not original.

I hope we'll soon have also a motorcycle team in Transylvania in our military history club which is making reenactment, but we dont reenact german or soviet army from ww2.
